Saleem Safi is the Bureau Chief of
News Network International (www.nni-news.com.pk)
, the largest private news agency in Pakistan, for the North West Frontier
Province (N-W.F.P) and Afghanistan. He also hosts “Saleem Safi Kay Saath” the widely
watched live current affairs programme on the
Pakistan Television (PTV) as well as two Pashto language current affairs
programmes on the PTV and AVT Khyber(www.avtkhyber.com)
. His column 'Jirga' regularly appears in the national Urdu language daily
Jinnah
Safi came to Jinnah from the daily
Mashriq, the largest Urdu daily in the N-W.F.P which he edited for one
year. Before that he wrote for the daily 'Pakistan'.
Safi has been working as a
journalist in the field since 1995. He was promoted to the position of the
Bureau chief after a short stint as a district reporter in Mardan. During
that time he was also the correspondent for the English daily
The Nation He also worked as a stringer for Radio Tehran' s Urdu and
Pashto services from 1997 to 1999 and is frequently invited to comment on
the BBC and Voice of America's Pashto service as an expert on Afghanistan
and N-W.F.P.

Safi is the author of
“Afghanistan, Taliban, Usama Aur Pakistan Ki Deeni Juma’aton ka Kirdar”

, September 2002 in Urdu.
To help him write this book he had to travel to the Taliban controlled
Afghanistan in 1999. He was arrested by them and had to be released after
two weeks of captivity and international pressure from the journalist

Safi has traveled widely in the
region for his work. The countries include Afghanistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia,
UAE, Europe and United States.
Safi has won the award for best TV
compare of current affaires from PTV (2002).
Saleem Safi has done his
Bachelors from the University of Peshawar. He lives in Peshawar.
